In our new electricity supply agreement we have chosen a Zero Carbon supply to significantly improve the carbon impact of our operations.
In parallel we will continue to assess how and where we can reduce our electricity consumption.
We have installed BioMass heating at our Leeds site.
The system runs from waste wood generated from our specialist CNC operations and deliveries effective heating to the two factories at the CNC site.
Any waste not suitable for the BioMass unit is effectively recycled.
Over recent years we have made significant strides forward to reduce the volumes of waste going to landfill.
At present we have less than 1% of waste which cannot either be recycled or used in our biomass heating system.
The aim of Zero Waste to Landfill is close and will continue to be pursued.
We are fully engaging our staff on our sustainability journey with the use of Team Talks, presentations , notice boards and visual materials around the sites.
We will also review how we can best communicate with the wider community of customers, suppliers and the local community.
We will continue to support local charities and develop our dynamic website and seek the support of our Suppliers in our Ethical Trading and Sustainable ambitions.
We will encourage and promote the use of electric cars to our Sales team and the use of public transport , car sharing and “cycle to work” initiatives across the remainder of our colleagues.
We will watch closely the development of electric powered vehicles to our distribution fleet and if and when appropriate will consider the transition away from traditional ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles.
